He is currently Minister of Energy (in charge of oil, gas, electricity and water), a position he assumed on 24 February 2011. He is also Chairman of four Boards of Directors: the National Oil and Gas Authority, the Oil and Gas Holding Company, Bapco and Tatweer Petroleum. Dr Mirza is a member of the Board of Directors of the Economic Development Board, the Energy Supreme Committee, the Board of Trustees of the Bahrain Centre for Strategic, International and Energy Studies, the Supreme Civil Service Council, the Supreme Government IT and Communications Committee, the Civil Defence Council, the Ministerial Committee for Financial and Economic Affairs, the Ministerial Committee for Legal Affairs, the Ministerial Committee for Facilities and Services Committee. Before his present duties, he held other Ministerial positions: Minister of State in 2002, Minister of Cabinet Affairs in 2004 and Minister of Oil and Gas Affairs in 2005. HE Alexandr Novak

Born in Avdeevka in the Donetsk region of the Ukrainian SSR, Alexander Novak graduated from Norilsk Industrial University in 1993 with a degree in economics and management in metals and mining, and, in 2009, he obtained a degree in management from Moscow State University. He started his career in 1988 at the Norilsk mining and smelting company na AP Zavenyagin (later — JSC “Norilsk mining and smelting company na AP Zavenyagin”). During his 12 years there, he rose from operator-hydrometallurgist to Deputy HR Director and Head of Division at the Zapolyarny subsidiary of the company. In 2000–02, Mr Novak held the position of Deputy Head of the Norilsk City Administration for Economy and Finance, before becoming First Deputy Head of Administration. In 2002–08, he worked for the Krasnoyarsk regional administration as Deputy Governor and Head of the General Department of Finance; later, he became First Deputy Governor, then Deputy Governor and Head of the regional Cabinet of Ministers. Starting in 2008, he was Deputy Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation and a Member of the Collegium of the Ministry (since October 2010). Mr Novak was appointed Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation on 21 May 2012.

Alan Crain

Alan Crain has advised multinational companies regarding legal and business matters throughout the world for over 30 years. He began his career with a private law firm in Washington, DC, and has been a senior officer of three Fortune 500 multinationals. He is currently Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Baker Hughes Incorporated, where he has global responsibility for all legal affairs and government relations. Mr Crain served for five years on the Board of Directors of Mariner Energy, Inc. He is a recognized expert on corporate governance matters and other challenges facing boards of directors. He has been a speaker on strategic issues facing such boards for Stanford University, Rice University, the University of Texas, the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University and other forums. He served in several positions in the group’s Finance Department and Exploration and Production (E&P) division. Christiana Figueres
Executive Secretary, UN Framework Convention on Climate Change
Christiana Figueres was appointed Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change on 17 May 2010. She has been involved in climate change negotiations since 1995. She was a member of the Costa Rican negotiating team and represented Latin America and the Caribbean on the Executive Board of the Clean Development Mechanism in 2007, before being elected Vice President of the Bureau of the Conference of the Parties in 2008–09. In 1995, she founded the Centre for Sustainable Development of the Americas, a non-profit think tank for climate change policy and capacity-building, which she directed until 2003. In 1994–96, she served as Director of the Technical Secretariat, Renewable Energy, in the Americas. Ms Figueres has served on several boards of non-governmental organizations involved in climate change issues, including the Voluntary Carbon Standard. She is also a widely published author on the design of climate solutions, and has been a frequent adviser to the private sector on how to play a leadership role in mitigation. Aldo Flores-Quiroga
Secretary General, International Energy Forum
Aldo Flores-Quiroga has been Secretary General of the International Energy Forum since January 2012. He served in the Mexican Government as Assistant Secretary for International Affairs at the Ministry of Energy in 2007–11 and as Assistant Secretary for Bilateral Economic Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2001–05. He also worked as an independent consultant on trade and industrial policy to the Food and Agriculture Organization, and the Governments of Mexico and the Dominican Republic (2005–06). Before joining the Mexican Government, he was Assistant Professor at the School of Politics and Economics of the Claremont Graduate University in California, where he taught courses on international political economy, economics, public policy and economic development (1996–2001). Dr Flores-Quiroga studied Economics at the Autonomous University of Nuevo León, in Mexico (1989), and obtained a PhD in Political Science-International Political Economy, with majors in economic theory and international political economy, at the University of California, Los Angeles (1997). He has published in English and Spanish on trade and exchange rate policy.
Ryan Lance
Chairman and CEO, ConocoPhillips
Ryan M. Lance is Chairman and CEO of ConocoPhillips. A petroleum engineer, he has 28 years of oil and natural gas industry experience in senior management and technical positions with ConocoPhillips, its predecessor Phillips Petroleum and various divisions of ARCO. Before assuming the role of Chairman and CEO in May 2012, he had served as Senior Vice President, Exploration and Production – International, since May 2009. Before that, he was President, Exploration and Production – Asia, Africa, Middle East and Russian/Caspian. He was previously Senior Vice President of Technology, beginning in 2007, and of Technology and Major Projects, beginning in 2006. Hi prior assignments included appointments as: President of Downstream Strategy, Integration and Specialty Functions in 2005 and of Asia Pacific Exploration and Production in 2003; and as vice president of Lower 48 in 2002, upon the merger with Conoco. Mr Lance had previously served as General Manager of Lower 48 and Canadian Operations for Phillips since 2001. He spent 17 years with ARCO, ultimately becoming Vice President of Western North Slope operations in Alaska, which were acquired by Phillips in 2001. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in petroleum engineering from Montana Tech in Butte in 1984.
Michael Lynch
President, Strategic Energy and Economic Research, Inc
Michael C. Lynch is President of Strategic Energy and Economic Research and a lecturer at Vienna University. He has combined SB-SM degrees in Political Science from MIT and has performed a variety of studies related to international energy matters, including forecasting of the world oil market, energy and security and corporate strategy in the energy industries, as well as analysis of oil and gas supply. He is best known for his work in two areas: analysing the forecasting of oil and gas markets, and studying the economics of petroleum supply. As part of that, he has demonstrated the source of the errors in the 1970s' oil forecasts and the shortcomings in oil supply models. Most recently, he has been noted for his analysis of peak oil ‘modelling’, which demonstrated that it is based on flawed methods and is essentially unscientific. He is a former Chief Energy Economist at DRI-WEFA, Inc, a leading economic consulting firm, and a past-President of the United States Association for Energy Economics. He was a Senior Fellow for the USAEE. His publications have appeared in seven languages, as well as English, and he serves on several editorial boards, including for the journal Energy Policy and Geopolitics of Energy.
Michael Masters
Chairman, Better Markets Inc
Michael W Masters is the founder and Managing Member of Masters Capital Management, an investment management firm. He is also a Partner in Masters Capital Nanotechnology, a venture capital fund. Mr Masters, an expert on the topic of commodities speculation and financial reform, has testified before many Congressional committees and government agencies, including the House Energy Subcommittee, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission. Recently, he participated in joint SEC-CFTC roundtable discussions on a variety of security-based swaps issues. Speaking out about the far-reaching harmful effects of unregulated commodities speculation and the need for financial reform, Mr Masters has made numerous appearances in media outlets around the world. He has also addressed consumer and corporate groups, and has served as an expert panellist before international and investor groups. He is the founder of Better Markets, a Washington, DC-based non-profit, non-partisan organization established to promote transparency and accountability in the financial markets for the public interest. He was the 2004 winner of the “Open Your Heart” award from Hedge Funds Care and is a 1989 graduate of the University of Tennessee.

CEO, Global Carbon Capture and Storage Institute
As CEO of the Global CCS Institute, Brad Page brings extensive knowledge and experience of Australian and international climate and energy issues. Before the Institute, he served as CEO of the Energy Supply Association of Australia (esaa), the peak representative organisation of the electricity and downstream gas industry in that country, for over seven years. During this time, he acted as national spokesperson for these industries, and was also an active member of the Australian Government Business Roundtable on Climate Change, the CSIRO Energy Transformed Flagship Advisory Committee and the Australian Government Energy White Paper High-Level Consultative Committee. During 2001 and 2002, he headed the secretariat for the Council of Australian Governments' Energy Market Review, recommending significant changes to the governance, regulation and policy development arrangements for electricity and gas markets. He also served as Chair of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation’s Energy and Transport Sector Advisory Council between November 2004 and January 2009. Before joining esaa, he enjoyed a long career in the Australian Public Service. He holds a BA (Administration) and, in 2009, studied the economics of climate change at Cambridge University.

Dr Gerhard Roiss, Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of OMV Aktiengesellschaft, studied economics at the Universities of Vienna, Linz and Stanford (USA). He started his professional career in 1990 as Head of Marketing at OMV. In 1997, he became CEO of the Board of PCD Polymere GmbH. In 1997, he was appointed to the Executive Board of the OMV Group, with responsibility for plastics and chemicals, and, in 2000, he assumed responsibility for the exploration and production business. In 2002–11, he was Deputy CEO of the OMV Group, with responsibility for refining and marketing, including petrochemicals, and, in April 2011, became CEO of OMV Aktiengesellschaft. He also holds the positions of Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Petrom SA, Bucharest, and Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Petrol Ofisi AŞ, Istanbul.
Urban Rusnák

Dr Rusnák, from Košice, Slovakia, graduated from the Moscow Institute of Oil and Gas in 1990 with an MSc and from the Institute of Social Sciences, Ankara University, in 1998 with a PhD. He started his career in 1990 as a researcher at the Geological Institute, Slovak Academy of Sciences. He then moved to the Political Department of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Czech and Slovak Federal Republic, in 1992, and, in 1993, joined the MFA, Slovak Republic. In 1994–98, he was Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Turkey. He returned to Bratislava in 1998 as a Department Analyst in the Department of Analysis and Planning and Editor in Chief of the International Issues journal. In 1999–2000, he was Director of the Slovak Institute for International Studies and, in 2000–03, he was Executive Director of the International Visegrad Fund. Between 2003 and 2005, he was Head of the Political Analysis Division at the MFA. He served as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Ukraine in 2005–09, after which he returned to the MFA as Project Leader, External Energy Security of the Slovak Republic. Since 2012, he has been Secretary General of the Energy Charter Secretariat.
Paolo Scaroni

Paolo Scaroni has been Chief Executive Officer of Eni since June 2005. He is currently Non-Executive Director of Assicurazioni Generali, Non-Executive Deputy Chairman of London Stock Exchange Group, Non-Executive Director of Veolia Environnement. Also, he is on the Board of Overseers of Columbia Business School. After graduating in economics at the Università Luigi Bocconi, Milan, in 1969, he worked for three years at Chevron, before obtaining an MBA from Columbia University, New York, and continuing his career at McKinsey. In 1973, he joined Saint Gobain, where he held a series of managerial positions in Italy and abroad, until his appointment as Head of the Glass Division in Paris in 1984. From 1985 to 1996, he was Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Techint. In 1996, he moved to the UK and was Chief Executive Officer of Pilkington. From May 2002 to May 2005, he was Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Enel. From 2005 to July 2006, he was Chairman of Alliance Unichem. In May 2004, he was appointed Cavaliere del Lavoro of the Italian Republic.
Lars H Thunell
Executive Vice President and CEO, International Finance Corporation
Lars H. Thunell is Executive Vice President and CEO of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group. He is leading IFC in its mission to promote sustainable private sector development. Since joining the corporation in January 2006, he has advanced the growth of IFC’s business and its mission to create opportunities in emerging markets and improve people’s lives. He has visited more than 90 countries, including over 60 developing countries, to see first-hand how the IFC can best help its clients with financing and advisory services. Mr Thunell joined IFC after a successful career in the financial services industry. Most recently, he was the Chief Executive Officer of SEB, a North European commercial and investment bank. In the 1990s, he was the Chief Executive Officer of Trygg-Hansa, a Swedish insurance company, and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Nordbanken. As President and Chief Executive Officer of Securum, an asset management company established by the Swedish government, he played a key role in the government’s strategy for resolving the country’s banking crisis of the 1990s. Mr Thunell graduated with a doctorate from the University of Stockholm and was a research fellow at the Harvard University Centre for International Affairs.
Peter Voser

Peter Voser became Chief Executive Officer on 1 July 2009. Before that, he had been Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and an Executive Director of Royal Dutch Shell since 2004. He was CFO of the Royal Dutch/Shell group from October 2004 to July 2005. He was CFO and an Executive Committee Member of the Asea Brown Boveri group from March 2002 to September 2004. He joined Shell in 1982, after graduating in business administration from the University of Applied Sciences, Zürich. He went on to work in a number of finance and business roles in Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Argentina and Chile. In 1999, he was appointed CFO of Shell Europe Oil Products. He became CFO of the Global Oil Products Business in early 2001. From 2004 until April 2006, he was a member of the Supervisory Board of Aegon NV. He served on the Board of Directors of UBS AG from April 2005 to April 2010. He was a member of the Swiss Federal Auditor Oversight Authority from 2006 until December 2010. Since April 2010, he has been a director of Catalyst, a non-profit organisation which works to build inclusive environments and expand opportunities for women and business. In March 2011, he was appointed to the Board of Directors of Roche.
Wang Dongjin
Vice President, China National Petroleum Corporation
Wang Dongjin is a Vice President of the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC). He is a professor-level senior engineer and holds a Master’s degree. He has nearly 30 years of working experience in China’s oil and gas industry. From July 1995, Mr Wang was the Deputy Director General of Jiangsu Oil Exploration Bureau. From December 1997, he worked as the Vice President of the China National Oil and Gas Exploration and Development Corp (CNODC). From December 2000, he worked concurrently as the President of CNPC International (Kazakhstan) Ltd and Aktobe Oil and Gas Co Ltd. From October 2002, he assumed the position of General Manager of CNODC. From January 2004, Mr Wang assumed the positions of Assistant to the President of CNPC and the Vice Chairman and President of CNODC. From September 2008, Mr Wang was appointed Vice President of CNPC and a Director of the company in May 2011.
